Hi there!
As some of you may be aware, I did jump up and run for the U.S. Congress this year in order to protest the wilderness bills being proposed by our Republican Senator Crapo and Congressman Simpson.
Of course, to be a serious contender in a race like that one, a man would have to spend at least a year wooing the Republican Committee members. However, we did accomplish a lot for a little. We now have a website in progress, we garnered some pretty good media attention, and we did a quality exposé on the CIEDRA bill and the Owyhee Canyon-lands lock-up. Here’s how much it cost:
Radio advertising $360
Entry fee $300
Four tanks of gas $200
Total cost of running for Congress: $860
Net Gain is: attention to our website, free advertising of your author’s name, free advertising for books, great PR work. For under a thousand bucks we got several thousand dollars worth of media attention and brought a good deal of awareness to the scandalous lock-up of Idaho’s public lands.
This helps sell books, because people will remember your Crazy Ol’ Chairman’s name.
So, let’s move onward and upward and get capitalized. Let’s build some material assets, get more books in print, get our next annual dinner and dance paid for, and have some real fun. Remember that the mission must be accomplished, and the sooner the better, and that the ‘Crazy Ol’ Chairman’ really isn’t crazy.
Yours sincerely,
Jack
